Now What Old Man?

The Why

I feel beyond fortunate in life. I’ve spent my post college career in retail, fell backwards into ecommerce before Y2K, and started my own company in 2006. Now, twenty years later it is time to move on. Financially I am set. I have my commercial real-estate that will provide all the income I need, and once I closeout my inventory I will have a nice amount of capital. But I’ve spent the last two decades putting every dollar I have into my business. I have dabbled in a few longer term investments, with mixed results, so now I am left wondering, now what “old man”?

What should I do with this “capital” that I have? I am brand new to the stock market, options, crypto and all they accompanying terms that go with them. I could invest it with a financial advisor. They love to take about risk, return, your plans and dreams and then eventually will promise a typically “average” return that feels anti-climatic. I think that might not be a bad idea for some of my investments, but who is ever really happy with average? Somewhere out there people are making better returns, better decisions, and possibly with less risk. This blog is about my quest to find those people and to try and copy their results.

I started this journey in August of 2025, (except for one investment I made earlier) so some of these posts will be looking backward, but eventually I hope to provide current updates about my investments. The goal here is two fold. First, to share my results so you can benefit from my good or bad decisions. Second, and more importantly, by posting a journal of my journey, I hope to add a level of accountability and reflectiveness to this process and keep myself grounded.
